Butte County is located 60 miles north of Sacramento in California's agricultural heartland. Often called the “Land of Natural Wealth and Beauty” Butte County was one of the original California counties, founded on February 18, 1850. It is the home to about 217,300 people, living in the cities of Chico, Oroville, Gridley, Biggs, Paradise or other parts of the county.

Bordered by the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the east and the Sacramento River on the west, Butte County is just a short drive from the major metropolitan areas of Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area.
